Simple Financial Advice Top Sites

US

  1. Yahoo Finance Stock screener. Probably the most sophisticated free stock screener on the web. I found the instructions somewhat short. Its definitely designed for the advanced user.
  2. Stockpoint.com is another what I call comprehensive investing site. It has pulled an amazing collection of stock together in one seamless and free package. More bad news. As of March2004, another quality site has met an untimely end. Looks like this business model has some questions that need answers. In the meantime CBS Marketwatch is a good site to bookmark.
  3. ThompsonFN.com is headed in the right direction. In depth stock analysis, estimates, and fundamental data. Update: As at Feb 3rd,2004, this site died. Its a shame to see a quality site shut down. It is another example of how ruthless the net is with advertising based business models.
  4. Morningstar is the site for mutual fund investors. Morningstar are the leaders in tracking and ranking mutual funds.

Since this site went live 4 months ago, two of my top 4 picks are no longer available. I really hope this isn't a sign of the times. I will be updating the site shortly with more reviews on quality replacements (like Barchart.com) - April04.

Canada

  1. GlobeInvestor.com. The site is one of the best investor sites for Canada but does not compare to the big US players. My advice, stick with the the free version. I do not see any compelling reason to upgrade to the Gold version.
  2. The Canadian Morningstar is no different. It has the best ranking and tracking of mutual funds that I have seen. The only thing that concerns me is the trend towards paid content.

Europe

  1. ADVFN. Wow. All this for free. This is an all in one site for investors offering a comprehensive set of investment tools.
