I have used three of the accounts discussed above. Unless you are an active trader, most banks are quite similar in service offerings. Active traders on the other hand have more choice. It appears Etrade's offering to active traders is competitive.
The most interesting online broker, in my opinion, is Ameritrade Canada. They are advertising US equity trades for $10.99. Wow. The only thing is that they do not offer access to Canadian markets. A call to Ameritrade recently reveals that Canadian access is coming soon. When that happens, look out!
